We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Dhiya Dharampal as our new Master’s student at Quantum@SUN, starting in February 2025.
Dhiya holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Astronomy and Physics, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), where she graduated in 2023. In 2024, she completed her Honour’s degree in Physics at UKZN, where she did a quantum machine learning project. This project used Quantum Convolutional Neural Networks (QCNNs) to classify medical image data and it is what prompted her to further her studies.
Dhiya is now pursuing her Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics at Stellenbosch University, specialising in quantum machine learning and its potential applications in the medical field.
She shares her excitement about being in Stellenbosch and looks forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
